Josephine Shaker is a scintillating syncopator of hot beats, a whirling dervish of charm and an utter dancefloor delight. Josephine is one of London’s most in demand tap dancers and her comically chaotic style infuses her tap performances with a fresh interpretation on the ancient art of hoofing. Josephine has performed internationally as well as in more local venues like the Royal Albert Hall, the Mayfair Arts Club, Shoreditch House and the Camden Roundhouse, and for clients as diverse as Charlotte Church, Paul O’Grady, Bacardi and members of the British Royal Family. In addition to a decade of tap study with top international hoofers, Josephine has also studied clowning with Spymonkey and Philipe Gaulier. As an improvisational dancer, she has performed live with the Gordon Webster band, the Top Shelf Band and CJ Stoneking.
Josephine has produced and directed shows in Australia with former burlesque troupe ‘Baby Take a Bow!’. This included Australia’s first ever burlesque game show, ‘Tit for Tat’. In 2006 she produced the 5 star show ‘Burlesque Idol’ at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival which remains to date the only competition in the world where dead heats are settled with whipped cream, watermelons and Mexican wrestling masks. She also co-devised cabaret shows ‘The Aviator Club’ for the Brighton Fringe Festival and ‘The Temperance Society’ for the Big Chill Festival.
Josephine was the dance consultant to the Phyllida Lloyd-directed show, ‘Josephine and I’ at the Bush Theatre starring Cush Jumbo. She has also been choreographic consultant to Jess Love – world record holder hula-hooper extraordinaire and La Soiree star and Charlotte Church – singer and all-round top Welsh bird.
